Half Term Planning Homework - Blog 30

Mise-En-Scene Ideas

Part 1 - Locations And Settings

  • Train station - Image result for angel station
We would see this in the beginning of the sequence as  the man goes up the escalator while people are running down past him. I want to use this as we imagined the character going up and it would add to the tension as it would be easy to film the crowd running down but the audience not being able to see why.

  • Crowded street -

We would see this during the entire sequence, i'd want to use this because it would help to set the tone of revenge as everyone is around but it still happens.

  • Alleyway - Image result for empty alleyway

We would see this at the beginning and end of the title sequence, its a creepy area and would make the audience question why, it would set a dark and creepy mood and build tension until something happens.

Part 2 - Planning Costume Ideas

Task 1 - memorable characters costumes and makeup.

Example 1:

Example 3:
Film: James Bond

Costume/Makeup: he always wore a suit wherever he went.

Part 3 - Props

Part 4 - Mise-En-Scene Ideas

Film Idea

  • A man is walking down a canal as he is being followed but he is unaware, he is murdered and a detective soon finds the body with a note near by.
Key Props

  • A golf club is crucial as it is the murder weapon.
Locations

  • Canal
Setting

  • Canal in daylight.
Costume

  • Everyday clothing or a suit for the killer and everyday clothing for the victim.
Lighting

  • Natural lighting because the sequence is likely to be completely outside.

29-Conventional Sounds

zips
slamming
stamping

Zips could communicate my chosen genre because it could sound like someone is being put in a body bag. This sound could be put at the start of the title sequence to show the protagonist putting a body in a bag.
Slamming could communicate our chosen genre because it could give the sudden edge of the film. This could be put in the title to show the character leaving.
Stamping can represent the genre because it could lead to the climax of something about to happen. This could show the character start walking to the victim.

Making sound effects

The 4th sound clip that was used is birds chirping.
The idea with these sound clips was the footsteps for a man walking combined with the birds to create a sense of calm and then he walks to the rivers and the sea effect will be used. The inception sound effect will come in when the man discovers the body.

Sound Design - Blog 29

Sound Design

Sound is an important part of the film, without sound the film becomes dull. Sound is used in film to establish tone, atmosphere and to help give the audiences clues about the plot, characters and the genre of the film. We decided to do something similar to our head on activity, so the music would be more in a low minor. the sound would be mostly made up of Foley sound of the people in the background rushing around and screams, with the music adding to the tension and suspense to grab peoples attention. The sound will be important as it will help determine the genre of the film because otherwise it wouldn't be as obvious.

Blog Post 27-Audience Profile

Our core target audience are 18+ but the minimum age is 16. These are men and not women because our films main characters are male and there are no female roles in the opening so women are less likely to go and watch our film. This is our core target audience because our genre is thriller and the films main characters are teenagers. So more teenagers are going to watch this film more than adults.

Our target audience

We could not record our target audiences responses because they did not want this.

Everyone we asked said that they liked all of our ideas and we should put them together. This did not give us much feedback and so we came together to think of an idea. The people we asked said that it would appeal to them if there was high tension and suspense but not completely confusing them.

This is all the feedback we got and so we were not able to do much in terms of audience feedback.

Individual Ideas Blog 24

Initial sequence ideas

For my title sequence idea the genre would be a revenge thriller. The storyline would be that someone was trying to take revenge on a guy because they had killed their family. They would be chasing them while a detective is following both of them. The detective would be the main character in the film and the title sequence would show that the three collide at some point during the film.

24: Individual idea/outline for a title sequence

For my title sequence idea the genre would be a crime drama. The storyline will be that someone is walking down a street and they start to hear what sound like a fight. They then causously walk towards the sound and they see someone laying face down on the floor, they then look up to see someone running off into the distance. There is going to be a detective like character who is the witness to the first crime and the murderer who lives in close proximity to the whitness.

john kendrick - 6 min challenge

Our given title was John Kendrick, our object was a golf club and our location was a tube escalator on the victorian line.  In the video we discuss our initial ideas for the film.

The first shot is a medium-long shot of a crowd at the top of the escalators and then the camera slowly pans down and John enters the frame. Then it switches to a first person view of John going up the escalators. Once he gets to the top it switches to an over the shoulder but stays in the same position as John walks away puts a piece of paper in the bin. There is a pan to a lady who takes the note out of the bin and switches to a first person view of the note. mid shot of her looking at the body and then she continues walking away.

Foley sound of a crowd taking in horror, john whistling while going up on the escalators and until he walks off. Once it pans into the lady there is a low minor that is played once she looks at a note.

Health Check 2 blog 22

Shahzaib, your blog is developing with some promise with 27 posts at the time of marking, and you have increased your mark into level 3, which is pleasing - well done!  Please read through the feedback below and complete the to do / targets list at the bottom of the page.

strengths:
- mostly up to date
- previously missing research posts now completed
- ideas and evidence clearly communicated to show care in presentation of ideas

weaknesses:
- time management not very frequency - approximately once or twice weekly
- detail in the posts isn't always consistent so some are detailed and reflective whereas others are less so
- use of ICT - could use a greater range of ICT and digital apps to present ideas rather than rely on text and embedded images or screenshots

TO DO / targets for completion:
1. improve frequency of posting - aim for 4 times weekly (2 lessons and 2 homeworks)
2. aim to provide detail in ALL your posts - reflect on the usefulness and value of the tasks you are working on - what have you learned from them and how can they help you develop your title sequence ideas?
3. be creative and experiment with a greater range of ICT to present your ideas visually rather than typing directly into a post

21: practical remake activity- evaluation

Evaluation

We thought our title sequence wouldn't be as difficult as we expected, once we had finished the planning we thought that it would be easy as we had a plan. Once we started filming it became easy to notice that it would be harder than we thought. We found a location and began filming, although we had a storyboard and plan it was still difficult. Even though filming was hard, editing was the hardest part, especially as we did not save our work correctly and so had to start editing again. However even though we faced problems we were still able to finish on time, this is what we thin went well, also as this was practice we were able to make mistakes and  correct ourselves so that in the final title sequence no mistakes would be made.

Why is sound so important in a film-Blog Post 15

Sound is used in a film to establish tone, atmosphere and to help give the audience clues about the plot, characters or to identify the Genre of the film. It is also used to help 'suspend disbelief' to create realism for the viewer and heighten their experience of the film.

What is sound?
Vibrations that travel through the air or another medium and can be heard when they reach a person's or animal's ear.
What is a soundscape
A piece of music considered in terms of its component sounds.
What is sound design
Sound design is the process of specifying, acquiring, manipulating or generating audio elements.
