Evaluation Question 6

What have you learnt about technologies process of constructing this product?

  • During the filming I used a Canon film camera and during the editing I used Adobe Premier Pro and Adobe After Effects.
  • In Premier Pro I've learnt how to edit cleanly and how to add and manipulate sound to match what is on screen.
  • With After Effects I've learnt how to create title and then transfer them over to Premier Pro to add into our final version.
  • Working with the camera helped me understand cinematography as a whole with regards to the framing of shots and to also mix up the camera angles to create interest.
  • The technologies that we had at our disposal to complete our title sequence were extremely useful in being able to let us be more creative.

Feedback changes

As a result of the feedback in the previous lesson we chose to change all the titles, we came across the problem of these titles being corrupted and so we had to start them again and we also added more sound, once we did these changes the title sequence was much better in our opinion.

Rough Cut 2 Feedback

In lesson we got feedback on out title sequence.

We got feedback on the sound and editing in the following ways

  • The colour of our titles had to be changed as it did not work with our genre (originally we had a red colour for our text)
  • We were told that we needed to add more sound, especially foley.
  • make sure that the title sequence flowed properly.

Unfortunately we did not record the feedback and this is why there is no video feedback.

As a result of the feedback however, we intend to implement these ideas and also change anything else we find necessary.

Rough cut 2 Evaluation and feedback

After viewing our second rough cut we got feedback on how we could improve what we have got and also things that we might put in. Some of our feedback was that the title colour of red fits in with horror so we should change it. Our soundtrack did not match the scene as much so we had to change it up.

To sum it all up, we need to change most of the titles and need to add more sound.

Evidence of editing 2

In class we continued to work on the titles for our opening title sequence.
We decided to make the title more aparent and to stand out so we changed the font and the way that it animates in to fade in and fade out slow.
We did come across a few problems when transferring the clips but we managed to work our problems out.

Blog Audit

Blog Audit

Swot analysis

The strengths of my blogs are that they are detailed and have a lot of pictures and/or videos that actually relate to the post. My weaknesses are that I don't finish some of the work or don't add in a lot of pictures.

Extra blog

Today we were editing our films and making a start with our title sequences. We were also searching for sound effects and music to put in our title sequence. The sounds that we chose to add into our sequence are panic music, footsteps, wind blowing and suspenseful music.

Health check 3

49 posts at health check 3.  Your blog is coming along nicely Alex - well done.  Pleasing to see that you went back and made the changes to your early blogs based on previous feedback.  To ensure that your grade remains a B (or climbs higher) I will need you to do the following over the Christmas holidays:
1. Please brand the blog - at the moment the background photo is one of the templates in blogger.  Perhaps choose a shot from your rough cut or one of the photos of your locations.
2. Please complete blog 27, which is on audience, as this is really important.
3. Blog 34 - can you turn the draft storyboard images up the right way?  They are wonky at the moment and tricky to view.
4. Ensure that you complete your own reflection on the quality of the rough cut that the boys edited on Wednesday.  Louisa has given you the handout in order to do this.  Make sure that this, along with your own reflection on the quality of your blog, is completed before the 4th January.
Great potential here Alex - well done.

Health Check 3

48 posts at health check 3.  The blog is looking pretty good Nathan - well done.  There are still a few things that you will need to do by the final deadline, however, to ensure that it is a B grade at the end (without these couple of things I could slip to a C):
1. As with the feedback at health check 2, I need you to go back over your blogs and make sure that you have the titles of the blogs in the title and not just the number.  Our external moderator will not have the checklist and so the numbers alone will not mean a thing to him/her.
2. Make sure that ALL your blogs have something visual in them - even if it's just a screen shot.
3. More specifically, go back to the following blogs:
 - 34 - turn the draft storyboard up the right way - it's the wrong way up at the moment.
 - 46 - add in the photos that the blog post refers to - doesn't make sense without them!
4. Complete missing posts 42 (your own reflection on the pitch)and 27 (audience profile - really important blog).
5. Finally do a SWOT analysis self-audit of your blog - use the handout given to you to complete over the xmas holidays.
Great potential here Nathan - well done.

From the feedback that I have received, I am going to improve all of my blogs and add in the missing blogs.

Health Check 3

Shahzaib, you have a respectable blog count of 50 posts for this stage in the coursework but, your frequency of posting is becoming worrying as you have only posted 6 tasks since 7/11, which suggests that your time management as you develop in the production stages is becoming an issue. Please can you read through the feedback below and complete the targets at the bottom, to ensure that you attain a mark for your blog which truly reflects all the hard work I see in class:

strengths:
- lots of reflection
- some evidence of how planning feeds into your production

weaknesses:
- time management - very little blogging since your pitch task
- use of ICT - reliance on text and screen shots
- limited evidence of filming and use of actors, locations and props

to do/ targets:
1. improve time management and frequency  of posting as we move into final stages of coursework aim for 3 of 4 times weekly
2. be more creative with your use of ICT and digital technology to present your work and learning
3. provide more visual evidence of your filming and editing drafts to prevent your mark from dropping into level 3
4. brand your blog - think about the genre and story for your film, how can you also reflect this in your blog through your choice of colours etc...?

As a result of the feedback i am going to make sure i post more and change some posts to become more creative.

Rough cut evaluation

Dose the order of the shots make sense
The shot order still makes sense even though we did miss some shots. With the shots that we have we have made the sequence work.

Is the order the same as you planed
The shot order did not go completely to plan and we have identified what shots we need to add in.

The quality of the camera work
The camera work was good for most of the shots. One of the establishing shots was a little shaky but we added an effect to stabilise it. The tracking shots were the most challenging shots to take but I feel that they went well with minimal shaking.

The variety of shot types used
We used many different shot types to make the title sequence as entertaining as possible and also to create suspense. We used POV, close ups, over the shoulder, medium shots, long shots and panning shots to show location.

The use of lighting
We only used natural lighting as we were outside and we felt that the lighting did not need to be altered in any way. We were fortunate that the weather was consistent and matched the setting.

The performance of the characters
The performance of the characters was good and with the help from some different camera angles to show the murderer and the investigator.

The use of mise-en-scene with locations, settings, props and costumes
Regents canal was a great place to film as it was not too cliché for a thriller and gave room for us to experiment with different shots and angles. The props that were used was two notebooks and headphones, the notepads had the desired effect to help convey the plot. The black outfit was used to represent the villan.
